Some cars are fast. Some are pretty. And some… just win.

For Mitchell Clary, owner of Over Kill Motorsports, Fancy was all three — and then some. In the world of bracket racing, few cars built a reputation as dominant, consistent, and legendary as this one. Born as Dragster chassis #4 from Phantom Race Cars, Fancy quickly became a staple in winners circles around the country, no matter who was in the seat. Most often, it was the talented Gary Williams behind the wheel, but it didn’t seem to matter — Fancy had a way of finding the winners circle. Big money bracket races, NHRA national events, Wallys, oversized checks — this car collected them all.

But make no mistake — the magic behind Fancy wasn’t just in the chassis. It was the hands that tuned it and the feet that launched it. The Williams family — Troy and Gary Williams, along with Stephen McCrory (“Williams”) — brought this car to life and built its reputation through sheer talent, grit, and relentless drive.

It was more than a hot rod. It was an identity.

A Car That Became Family

Mitchell has built the vision for this race team, but it’s the Williams family who make it fly. And it’s Troy and Gary Williams, in particular, who have been the heart and soul of the operation. While others have climbed into the seat and found success, it was Troy and Gary who consistently elevated the car — and Over Kill — to elite status.

Simply put, without Troy and Gary, Fancy doesn’t exist. Over Kill Motorsports doesn’t exist. And Mitchell knows it.

“These guys aren’t just teammates,” Mitchell said. “They’ve shaped my life. They’ve been my friends, my brothers. I truly don’t know where I’d be without them.”

The End of an Era

Mitchell has owned plenty of race cars over the years. But Fancy was special. It wasn’t just a machine. It was a teammate, a symbol of everything Over Kill Motorsports stood for: performance, persistence, and pride. Saying goodbye to Fancy after a wreck in 2019 wasn’t like junking a car — it was like losing a friend. Like burying a dog you grew up with. The end of Fancy felt like the end of an era.

“That car was just different,” Mitchell said. “You felt like it had its own energy. The drivers were incredible, but there was something about Fancy that gave you a boost — a little extra edge. Confidence, maybe. You knew when that car rolled up, you had a shot.”

When Fancy crashed, it left a hole. Mitchell searched for what would come next. Another build? A new direction? But one idea kept coming back: you can’t replace a legend — but maybe, just maybe, you can honor it.

And yet, despite the heartbreak, the desire to rebuild — not replace — slowly grew. What if the legacy didn’t have to end? What if there was a way to carry the story forward?

Fancy 2.0: A Tribute Reborn

After some soul-searching, Mitchell committed to a bold vision: recreate the magic. Fancy 2.0 was born — a tribute, a resurrection, and a challenge all rolled into one. Built by Folk Race Cars, fate struck early: the new chassis came off the jig as #4 — just like the original. The coincidence wasn’t lost on anyone.

Todd at Todd’s Extreme Paint laid down the color and flare, faithfully matching the look of the original Fancy, but with just the right touch of his own style. It was familiar, but fresh. A nod to the past with eyes toward the future.

And almost immediately, Fancy 2.0 did what the original had always done: win. Gary Williams piloted the tribute car to a $25K victory at Farmington Dragway, letting the world know that the legacy wasn’t over — it was just getting started again. Then, this last weekend Fancy 2.0 was a part of the GABR winning Dream Team.

Mitchell Clary is calling his shot, “Fancy 2.0 will win multiple additional big money races this year.”

More Than a Car, Again

The question now: can Fancy 2.0 live up to the shoes it’s trying to fill? Mitchell knows comparisons will come. The original Fancy built a mythos that few cars ever do. But with this new chapter, there’s no pressure — just passion.

“I’m not trying to rewrite history,” Mitchell says. “I just wanted to keep a piece of it alive. Fancy 2.0 reminds me of why we do this. The wins, the moments, the people. I think this car has a future.”

And that future is bright.

A Future Fueled by Family

As Fancy 2.0 moves forward, its foundation remains the same: family, friendship, and faith in the team. Mitchell isn’t just proud of the car — he’s proud of the people.

“I want the world to know — this isn’t my story. This is our story,” Mitchell said. “Troy and Gary Williams built this with me. They are OverKill. And Donovan and Stephen — these guys are everything to me. I wouldn’t be here without them.”

Thank You from Over Kill Motorsports

Mitchell Clary would like to extend heartfelt thanks to:

  • Nick and Brian Folk at Folk Race Cars for building Fancy 2.0 with care and precision.

  • Todd at Todd’s Extreme Paint for honoring the original with stunning work on the new car.

  • Greg Samuel at FTI, Mitchell’s longest supporter.

  • Michael Tedesco at Fuel Factory, a longtime customer turned sponsor.

  • Jason and the crew at Mickey Thompson, for the baddest tires in the game.

  • And most of all, to his father, Mitch “Water Rat” Clary and mother, Therese Willis, for unwavering support every step of the way.

Mitchell also thanks the extended OverKill Motorsports family, the drivers who helped build the Fancy legacy, and the bracket racing community that keeps the sport — and its stories — alive.

One era may have ended in 2019, but make no mistake: with Fancy 2.0, the story isn’t over. It’s just getting good again.

Also, the team at DragCoverage would like to extend Mitchell Clary a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
