(Rogersville, TN) Yesterday, a crash at Cherokee Raceway left racer Wendell Sturgill seriously injured but miraculously he survived. Sources say Sturgill’s car landed off an embankment, crashing into trees.
Sturgill got out of the car, and walked up the embankment on his own.
Sturgill was airlifted to UT Medical Center, where he is being treated for a neck injury and a possible broken back. Scott Sanders saw Sturgill give a thumbs up as he took off.
Sturgill expressed many thanks, stating, “Thank God for his mercy again in my life. I lived, and I’m at UT Medical Center… Please continue to pray for good results and a speedy recovery.”
“We can’t even begin to thank the people who stood with us yesterday… A racing community is something to be thankful for.” Strangers and familiar faces alike rushed to help, salvaging parts, loading trailers, and ensuring Sturgill’s son, Isaac, was cared for during the chaos.
