Built by Passion: The Story of Motion Raceworks

When Doug Cook talks about Motion Raceworks, it’s clear this isn’t just a business—it’s a life built around passion, family, and racing. Like so many of us, Doug started out in the garage, piecing cars together the best he could. “Like everyone else, I couldn’t afford to pay someone to build my cars,” he recalled. Growing up in a tool and die shop, he noticed how many parts were subpar. Instead of settling, he decided to make them himself.

What started in 2015 as a racer solving his own problems quickly turned into something much bigger. By 2016, Doug had quit his day job and went all-in on Motion Raceworks. Fast forward less than a decade, and the company has grown into a powerhouse with more than 20 CNC machines—many of them automated with robots, running around the clock. Motion Raceworks now designs and builds everything from RIFE sensors to Fluid Works fuel and oil systems to TBM brakes. Every piece is developed with the racer in mind.

But the success hasn’t come without sacrifices. For Doug, the hardest part of the journey was stepping back from the track. “I used to go every weekend,” he said. Now his time at the racetrack is more limited—and more focused. It’s about research and development, testing parts, and making sure the products truly serve racers.

When asked about the future of drag racing, Doug sees it shifting back to its roots. “The last ten years felt like a race to production. I think the next ten years will be about passion and quality. This industry is going to go back to being driven by people who love it.”

That belief shines through in everything Motion Raceworks does. The company’s investment in technology—particularly with Fluid Works—focuses on making cars easier to build, service, and push to their limits. From pump systems to plumbing to integration with RIFE sensors, Doug sees the future as a seamless ecosystem for racers. Expansion and even acquisitions may be on the horizon, but selling Motion Raceworks isn’t on his mind. “This is about building, not selling,” he said.

At the end of the day, Motion Raceworks isn’t just about parts. It’s about people. Doug opened his doors to us and made it clear that racing is family, and family is what this company was built on. Whether it’s a Saturday night at the track, a late night in the shop, or a 24/7 CNC machine carving out the next piece of innovation, Motion Raceworks is proof that when you build something on passion, you’re building more than just a business—you’re building a family legacy in racing.
