Atmore Dragstrip is officially closed following its final race on Saturday, ending a nearly 50-year run that began in 1976. For generations of racers and fans across South Alabama and Northwest Florida, the track was more than asphalt and guardrails — it was home.

“What started as a track became so much more,” owners Misty and Joey Barber shared. “It became a place filled with friendships, family, laughter, passion, and memories we’ll carry with us forever.”

“We wish things could have turned out differently,” they said. “But we find comfort knowing we gave it everything we had.”

Though the gates are now closed, the Barbers say the memories and friendships will live on. “You weren’t just racers or spectators — you became family.”
