SOUTHERN OUTLAW TOUR RETURNS IN 2026, REIGNITING GRASSROOTS PROMOD RACING ACROSS THE SOUTHEAST

The Southern Outlaw Tour is officially set to return in 2026, bringing grassroots Pro Mod racing back to the heart of the Southeast with a renewed focus on collaboration, community, and competition. Backed by Outlaw Promods and supported by multiple IHRA-sanctioned facilities, the 2026 season will feature four races across some of the region’s most respected drag strips.

The tour will kick off April 3–4 at Montgomery International Dragway in Alabama, followed by May 1–2 at Gulfport Dragway in Mississippi. The series then heads to Alabama International Dragway in Steele for the famed Night of Fire on August 21–22, before closing the season back at Montgomery International Dragway on September 4–5.

In addition to the Southern Outlaw Tour events, Montgomery will also host the IHRA Nitro Series on May 8–10 which will feature two promod classes, while the IHRA Nitro Series will make a highly anticipated stop in Memphis on September 10–12, giving racers and fans even more marquee outlaw action in 2026.

DragCoverage founder TJ Pruitt emphasized the importance of keeping the sport rooted in its grassroots foundation.

“The local grassroots Pro Mods are where it all started,” Pruitt said. “It’s great to see the weekend warrior continue to race. The purses won’t be big — they’ll be modeled after the standard $10,000 or so purse that we’ve raced for in the past — and the intent is just to have fun and bring local Pro Mod racing back to our local fans.”

These track owners and promoters have worked together to ensure racers have consistent, well-supported places to compete, helping rebuild momentum for Grass Roots outlaw Pro Mod racing. Rather than chasing massive payouts, the Southern Outlaw Tour is focused on affordability, accessibility, and keeping the competition strong for hometown racers.

With collaboration between tracks, IHRA sanctioning, and a clear grassroots mission, the Southern Outlaw Tour’s return in 2026 signals a powerful revival for Southeast Pro Mod racing.
