STATE CAPITOL RACEWAY IN PORT ALLEN, LOUISIANA — NEARLY 55 YEARS OF HISTORY — WILL NOT OPEN FOR 2026 SEASON

State Capitol Raceway (SCR) in Port Allen, Louisiana announced during its 2025 season banquet that the historic facility will not open for the 2026 racing season. The announcement came just one day after the release of the Battle of the Bayou event flyer, making the news even more difficult for racers to process.

Located just across the Mississippi River from Baton Rouge, SCR has been operating for nearly fifty-five years and has hosted major NHRA and IHRA events throughout its storied history. For generations, it has served as a home for weekend racers, families, and fans who grew up in its staging lanes and grandstands.

From grassroots bracket programs to national-level competition, SCR helped shape Gulf Coast drag racing.

While no timeline has been given for a possible return, the racing community is holding onto hope that this pause is not the final chapter for one of Louisiana’s most iconic tracks.
