FLORENCE, Ala. — Heritage Christian University will recognize one of the racing industry’s most respected figures on Monday, March 9, as Kenny Ford, founder of Performance Torque Converters (PTC), is named among this year’s ten Founders Award recipients.
For decades, Ford has been a trusted name in drag racing — a builder, innovator, and steady presence whose work has powered countless racers across the country. But long before PTC became a staple in the performance world, Ford was a young man from Ripley, Mississippi, whose fascination with fast cars shaped the direction of his life.
Born to Everett and Colette Ford, Kenny grew up with a natural mechanical instinct and a passion for speed. After high school, he entered the torque converter manufacturing field, where his early interest in racing quickly evolved into a lifelong pursuit. That passion eventually led him to establish Performance Torque Converters, a company now widely respected for its craftsmanship, consistency, and Ford’s personal commitment to excellence.
Beyond racing, Ford’s life has been defined by faith, family, and service.
He married his wife, LaGail, on June 2, 1978. Together they raised two children — Deda Minor and Devin Ford — and today they enjoy the role of proud grandparents to Alexandra Minor and Race Minor.
Ford’s dedication to the church has been just as strong as his dedication to motorsports. In Mississippi, he served the Ashland Church of Christ as a deacon, treasurer, and Bible school teacher. When the family moved to Muscle Shoals in 1996, they became part of the Highland Park Church of Christ, where Kenny continued his service as a teacher, deacon, and now an elder.
Those who know him — whether from the shop, the starting line, or the church pew — describe the same man: humble, steady, devoted, and driven by a desire to help others grow. His influence has reached far beyond racing, leading many to Christ and strengthening countless lives through quiet leadership and consistent example.
Though Ford has earned championships, industry awards, and widespread respect, he considers none of them greater than the honor of serving as an elder at Highland Park.
Heritage Christian University’s Founders Award recognizes individuals whose lives reflect Christian leadership, service, and impact. In honoring Kenny Ford, the university celebrates a man whose legacy spans both horsepower and heart — a respected builder in the racing world and a faithful servant in the church.
