Banks County officials delivered some great news to racing fans tonight, voting to approve the proposal for the revival of the Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Georgia. The board’s decision includes one operational guideline: no cars will be allowed on the track before noon on Sundays.

Banks County was packed wall‑to‑wall Tuesday night as residents, racers, and business owners filled the hearing room for a pivotal decision on the future of the Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Georgia. The turnout reflected just how deeply the historic track remains embedded in the identity of the region.

The approval marks a major milestone for supporters who have pushed for the dragway’s comeback since its closure. For decades, the Atlanta Dragway served as a cornerstone of local motorsports, drawing competitors and spectators from across the Southeast and contributing significantly to the area’s economy.

With the board’s green light now secured, anticipation is building within the racing community. Many expect the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) to move quickly, potentially outlining plans for rebuilding and reopening the track in the near future.

The Atlanta Dragway officially closed in 2021 after the NHRA sold the property and ended operations at the long‑running Commerce, Georgia track.
