After 27 years of racing, memories, and community, Immokalee Regional Raceway has officially shut down. The closure comes as the property transitions for expansion of Immokalee Regional Airport, where new aircraft hangars and aviation growth are planned on the land the track has occupied for decades. The decision was finalized by the Collier County Board of County Commissioners, which also serves as the airport authority and voted to move forward with the airport expansion project despite public opposition.

Supporters fought hard to save it, collecting more than 11,000 signatures in an effort to keep the track alive, but the county backed the expansion plan as a priority for future economic growth. For South Florida racers, this wasn’t just a dragstrip — it was home. A place where generations raced, learned, and built lifelong friendships. Another grassroots track lost to development… and another reminder that protecting our racetracks matters now more than ever.
