Racing is back at Sand Mountain Dragway in Section, Alabama, thanks to Eason and a team who refused to let the track become just another memory.

The eighth-mile track’s roots date to around 1981, giving generations of Alabama racing families a place to compete and spend Friday nights together.
For Eason, bringing it back meant more than owning a racetrack. It meant restoring a place his family loved and building something he could be proud of.

Family and close friends backed the vision, even knowing the financial return was uncertain. Now, racers who had stepped away are building and buying cars again, returning for Friday night racing.

Paul Darden also played a major role, building the timing system from scratch. He knew nothing about racing but combined his programming and technical experience with Eason’s racing knowledge to develop an accurate system. With more than 5,000 runs logged, it continues improving and is now available for purchase.

Eason says the track has delivered multiple $5,000 paydays and set attendance records. Next up is October 24, when a Pro Mod is scheduled to chase the track record.

For the families returning to Sand Mountain, the comeback means a chance to make new memories at a place they never forgot.
