The new owners of Piedmont Dragway didn’t waste much time laying out their plans—and they’re big.

During a Facebook Live Friday, new owner Greg Loflin joined longtime Piedmont fixture Bob Harris and Rick Moore to talk about what’s next for the historic North Carolina dragstrip.
The biggest news? They aren’t just reopening Piedmont. They plan to rebuild it.
A deal has been signed with American Concrete to install 1,000 feet of new concrete, with the racing surface widened to 52 feet and poured six inches thick.

“We’re going to do it right,” Harris said.
Loflin said the facility needs plenty of work, but nothing that can’t be fixed. Plans include improvements to the racing surface, walls, bleachers, pavement, lighting, scoreboards and other areas throughout the property.
The target is to have Piedmont back racing in the spring, with the first Big Dog event tentatively planned for April 27. A test session could happen beforehand to get cars down the new surface and begin putting rubber on the track.
And yes—Big Dog is coming back.
Harris also announced plans to bring back the North-South Shootout, Outlaw Door Slammers, Thursday night Test & Tune, bracket racing, Carolina No Time, Ford, Chevy and Mopar events, along with other programs that helped build Piedmont’s reputation.
Thursday Test & Tune is expected to return every week, with Harris saying the goal is to keep it affordable—potentially around $20 to race.
Bracket racers also heard something they’ll like: advertised purses will be guaranteed.
“If we tell you we’re running for $3,000 and one person shows up, $3,000 is what that one person will get,” Harris said.
The owners are also exploring a separate drifting area, diesel events and eventually the return of dirt drags.
For Loflin, Piedmont isn’t simply another business investment. He raced there for decades and remembers what the track once was.
Now, the goal is pretty simple:
Bring Piedmont Dragway back. And do it right.
