Atmore, AL – Drag Racing at Atmore Dragstrip dates back to March 1976 with an IHRA Winston Cup Race. That’s over 46 Years ago. Fast forward to 2022 and now the track takes new ownership as Joey and Misty Barber have the vision to take the facility to an even higher level of racing.Joey Barber and Misty Barber, Native Entertainment Racing, LLC, are now the new owners of Atmore Drag Strip and have scheduled the track’s Grand Opening for September 10. The event will feature 3-Second Nitrous Promods, Box, No-Box, Jr Dragsters, and 6.50 Index Racing. Be sure to follow “Atmore Dragstrip” on their new facebook page!
Joey Barber said “At the age 13, my brother Jeremy and I used to sit and watch races on the weekend at Atmore Dragstrip and I told him at a young age that I wanted to one day own a drag strip. My brother laughed at me, but he knew I had the passion and could do it.”
“I have always had the passion and dream of managing a drag strip and it often feels like a dream when I’m sitting on tractor cutting the grass.”
Joey and Misty have big plans to improve the facility, including concrete guardrails, renovating the restrooms and tower, upgrading the PA system, and eventually paving more of the racer pits.
In 2023, the track will be returning to NHRA Sanction with a full schedule of Bracket Racing, Promods, Heads-Up, Grudge Racing, No Prep, Motorcycles, and more.
“Our main goal is to provide the best racing we can for the racers, of all classes. I realize this will be a learning curve, but I’m dedicated to making sure we provide the best facility that we can for racing.”
Joey and Misty acquired the race track mid-season and will complete the remaining year but will have a full event schedule in 2023. Be sure to follow the new Atmore Dragstrip Facebook page and the track’s new website is under construction and will be posted in the near future with the event schedule, class rules, and other important Atmore Dragstrip Information.
