Father Sells 7 of His Self-Built Muscle Cars to Purchase and Re-open Abandon Drag Strip in West Virginia

Son – Ben Smith

Southside, WV — It seems we have published several articles on Dragstrips closing in the U.S. but this one has a different twist for the good. Kanawha Valley Dragway opened in 1994 and closed in 2017 after the previous owners posted that the track and property was sold.

The owners added that the racing venue had been unsuccessful and would be developed for a private residence and horse farm.

Well, a guy by the name of Earl Smith has changed the future of this once abandoned Dragstrip and purchased it after selling 7 of his own muscle cars that he built over the years.

His son, Ben Smith said “a lot of you have heard that my dad Earl Smith has purchased the old Kanawha Valley Dragway and we have worked down there since the middle of summer to make this happen. It will now be called Southside Dragway.”

“Dad sold 7 muscle cars that he built, some before I was even born, to make this all happen. All financial support is welcome. Any amount helps and thank you all for the support,” he added.
