Huntsville Dragway, now “Rocket City Dragway,” Signs with IHRA; David Sharp releases Track Plans at PRI

Harvest, AL — The 2023 Performance Racing Industry Show (PRI) in Indianapolis, IN has concluded and amongst the release of new products and services from vendors was the news that Rocket City Dragway in Harvest, AL has plans of re-opening and has signed with the International Hot Rod Association Family (IHRA).

Director David Sharp was in attendance at PRI and gave insight on the plans for the facility that was once Huntsville Dragway which opened in 1961 at Turner Farms. Those plans include an extended 400’ shutdown area for a 3,000’ total track length, more concession area, expanded bathrooms, additional seating, 1/8th mile concrete racing surface, a new stage & camp area, a new pit area, additional parking, and a new exit.

The track also plans to add a variety of events, including concerts and a 1,200’ tractor pull area for competition.

– Additional pit parking

We are excited to see these plans become a reality and see the track become sanctioned once again. The date for re-opening has not been announced but 2024 is the plan. Fingers crossed.
