The sounds of a racetrack are unmatched \u2014 the scream of revving engines, the slap of slicks in a burnout box, the cheers from the crowd \u2014 but somehow, above it all, the voice of an announcer cuts through the chaos.<\/strong> It elevates the atmosphere. It gives the race a heartbeat.<\/p>\n

Our Life’s Narrator<\/h2>\n

In the ’80s and ’90s, announcers weren\u2019t just calling races \u2014 they were larger-than-life figures. They were entertainers, walking encyclopedias of racers and rides, carrying the energy of an event on their shoulders. Back then, a good announcer made you feel like you knew<\/em> the car in the water box. Today, that tradition continues \u2014 and one voice that stands out is Jared \u201cJed\u201d Pennington.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jed is a racer from Alabama with a voice that feels like home. It\u2019s got that smooth Southern drawl \u2014 not too heavy, not too light \u2014 just the right mix of charm and comfort. Listening to Jed is like sitting on a porch rocking chair with a glass of sweet tea, catching up with an old friend about life\u2026 and race cars.\"\"<\/p>\n

Now, when I can\u2019t be at the race across the country, I\u2019ve got the stream playing on my back porch. Grill\u2019s hot, kids are running around, and there\u2019s Jed\u2019s voice coming through the speakers \u2014 making me feel like I\u2019m there.<\/p>\n

Jed once told me something that stuck with me: \u201cNot everyone sees every pass, but they still want to feel<\/em> it. Are they asking for a parts call? Just listening in? That distraction can sometimes lead to missed calls \u2014 and that weighs on a pro like Jed.\"\"<\/p>\n

Ideally, those needs go through the promoter \u2014 but Jed\u2019s humble enough to recognize that it\u2019s also a blessing<\/em> that people feel connected to the announcer. That they trust him.<\/p>\n

Late rounds bring another challenge \u2014 filling the downtime. When the action slows, the pressure rises to keep the energy alive. That\u2019s where experience, personality, and pure love for the sport come into play.<\/p>\n

And let\u2019s not forget \u2014 many announcers, like Jed, are racers too. That dual role makes things even more complex, especially as events grow and the need for full-time announcers increases. Hearing Jed in the booth is one thing, but hearing Jed pull up in the late rounds with Sweet Home Alabama playing from his cars speakers is another.\"\"<\/p>\n

But if anyone\u2019s up for it, it\u2019s Jed. He sees every run. Every issue. He\u2019s got the eyes \u2014 and voice \u2014 of a true professional. And now, JJ is stepping in alongside him, writing the next chapter in this incredible story.<\/p>\n

It’s uncanny. JJ\u2019s got big shoes to fill, but he\u2019s got the best mentor in the game. More importantly, he\u2019s got the same passion.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s something special about legacy in this sport. We talk a lot about passing on race cars and traditions, but Jed is passing on something just as meaningful \u2014 a voice. A calling. A connection to the community that will last generations.<\/p>\n
