SNRA Race 4 Recap: Edelen Runs Lights Out in Montgomery

Montgomery International Dragway opened its gates May 26th to a stacked nitrous promod lineup. Partly sunny skies and the Sunday morning air brought 10 SNRA cars out for the 25th anniversary of Edmund Halls’ Memorial Day Shootout.

Action picked up quick this weekend with the continuation of the Race 3 finals between Ric Roberts and Ralph Edelen, which was previously called off due to late-night track complications. Edelen secured that victory with a 3.92 run over Roberts’ 4.34.

Roberts Motorsports quickly bounced back in the #1 qualifying position for Race 4 with Ric and Doug taking the #1 and #3 position respectively. Edelen qualified in at #2, followed by Cole Measell and JT Thompson at #4 and #5.

Kenny Scott was welcomed on to the weekly damage report after suffering transmission issues in the qualifiers. This opened the door for Hugh McCall and McCall Racing to step in as the alternate in the #8 position.

As the 8-car elimination bracket kicked off, Ric Roberts suffered complications with his linkage on the start line allowing Team Fugitive to advance to Round 2. Accompanying Team Fugitive into Round 2 was Doug Roberts, Hugh McCall, and Ralph Edelen. Edelen took down Johnny Pilcher in Round 1 with a 3.87 run.

Doug Roberts kept Roberts Motorsports alive in the semifinals with the fastest mph run of the night (194 mph) against JT Thompson securing his position in the Race 4 finals with a .0216 reaction time! Edelen continued to lay down impressive runs through the semifinals against McCall Racing, 3.85 v. 4.18, finding himself in the finals for the second time in the day!

Ralph Edelen continues to be the baddest hot rod in the SNRA doubling up in the winner’s circle over Doug Roberts with the fastest ET on the night: 3.82! Edelen leaves Montgomery with the Race 4 win, and the points lead.

The SNRA is headed to south Alabama on June 8th for the first-ever Atmore Dragfest at the Atmore Dragstrip, sponsored by Johnson Ford, brought to you by yours truly, Drag Coverage! We’ll see you there!
