Atmore, AL – The Season Opener presented by Johnson Ford at Atmore Dragstrip received great support as racers from across the Southeast traveled to Atmore, AL to show their support for the new track owners, Joey and Misty Barber. With over 150 cars, the support that the racers and fans showed bring excitement leading into a full schedule of heads-up racing and bracket racing in 2023.
Although the forecast was not favorable for the entire week, the Barber’s only response was “let’s race,” taking a chance on the weather. It did rain, heavy rain to be exact, but the Atmore Dragstrip crew managed to dry the track and continue racing through the night.
After the track was dried, Ralph Edelen of Thomasville, GA broke the track record with a 3.83 and marched to the final round where he was defeated by Kyle Megginson in the final round. Over 10 Southern Nitrous Promods (SNRA) battled to qualify in the 8 car field, with Megginson and the Bankston Boys team taking the win.
One cool part about this race was the appearance of Traci Musi, driving her Firebird and qualifying in the 8-car Nitrous Promod field.
Congratulations to all winners and thank you sponsors for making this event a success: Johnson Ford of Atmore, AL, Rolin Construction, Dixie Catfish, H20 Leak Detection & Pool Repair, R&R Contractors, High 5 Energy, and Speedtech Nitrous
