“Lady in Red,” The Story of Erica Enders

By Angel Hardaway

At the age of 8 she starting racing a Jr. Dragster and learned the sport pretty fast. After many years in the Jr. division of NHRA, Erica moved up to Super Comp and Super Gas.

The Enders sister were actually the first siblings to win the NHRA Spring Nationals together! People Magazine wrote an article on their win which caught the eye of movie makers at Walt Disney.

in 2003 Disney released a film called Right on track following Erica’s story! The film showed what it’s like to be a female in a male dominated sport. No matter what obstacles Erica or her sister were faced with they were full send through it. To this day it’s still one of the most watched movies. In 2004 Erica won Houston running super gas. which opened the eyes of pro stock owner Victor Cagnazzi. Enders made her pro debut in 2005 and has been racing Pro Stock for the last 18 years.

Erica then joined Elite Motorsports at the end of 2013. They have set multiple world records in Pro stock, pro mod, and Competition Eliminator. She has also grabbed two K&N Challenge Championships and 4 championships in Pro Stock. The team is definitely a strong one already in the 2022 season they have won 4 out of the 6 event.

Burn outs and all her Chevy Camaro pro stock car is killer. It’s a 500 cubic inch, naturally aspirated, electronic fuel injection, Elite Performance built GM with approximately 1400 HP. They hold the record in both the E.T and MPH 6.450 @ 215.55 of the class. Erica says “The challenge to be the absolute best in “the good ole boys class”. I love the fact that the weight is on the driver’s shoulders. We have to leave with a clutch and manually shift a 5 speed liberty” is what she loves the most about racing.

Erica says “ If you don’t have thick skin, grow it. The weak get weeded out and people are not kind. Select a small circle of people who are equally yoked and stay the course. Anything is possible if you believe and work hard…but you have to surround yourself with the RIGHT people. They are the most important part of the puzzle.” Dragracing is tough but if you have a dream like Erica does then go for it, hard work pays off. 31 years of racing and she’s still on fire as a driver.
