Bradenton, FL — Five days of racing during the debut of the “fun in the sun” series at Bradenton Motorsports Park has been completed and four winners and one points champion has been crowned. Several racers traveled across the country to not only enjoy the warm weather that the south has to offer, but five chances at $10,000. With nearly 200 entries on the property, I would say that this event was a success.
However, the passing of S&W Race Cars president Scott Weney overshadowed the success of this event. Weney has forever changed the sport of drag racing. His life as a funny car guy started when he began working at the family business, S&W Race Cars in Spring City, Pennsylvania, at age ten.
Scotty Richardson said “Well I’m at a lost for words. Today we lost a friend and a partner. Scott Weney was a great person and he will be missed a lot. I do have to say thanks to all of the companies and racers that supported our race that we wanted to do together. Please keep Candi and Scott’s family in your prayers. RIP my buddy I luv ya & we will all miss you.”
Gary Williams of Bradenton, FL was the overall points champion for the series, completing several round wins and even a $10,000 victory in the OK Motorsports Phantom hotrod.
